URWERK UR-220 “Falcon Project”

When one chapter ends, another begins. Just as thrilling. Through its innovations, this timepiece once again has everything to please lovers of unusual creations.

At the end of 2019, a new script was written when the production run of the UR-210 Final Edition began. Since 2012, this timepiece has been depicting the essence of the Urwerk Galaxy. This year, Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner invite us to discover the subtle evolution of the shape of the UR-220 “Falcon Project”. While the two watches have many things in common, countless details highlight the progress made in optimizing the watch and making it even more wear-friendly. In short, for the first time, the brand’s founders have used carbon fiber to create the case. The case is more durable, lighter and also more elegant. Although the length and width remain the same (53.6 mm x 43.8 mm), the case thickness has been reduced from the previous 17.8 mm to 14.8 mm. In addition, the ridges inherent to the material also play an important role in the overall style of the watch.

On the dial side, we find the wandering hour display plus retrograde minutes on the satellite complication. This time, the typography has changed to emphasize the futuristic look. In line with this, and in the search for increased power and speed, the impressive minute hand has been skeletonized on all sides. Two indicators, each shaped like a 24-hour meter, let the wearer know the available energy. On the back, two adjacent rollers represent the oil change. This original counter provides the owner of the watch with valuable information: the running hours of the movement in months. After 39 months, the brand recommends sending the watch back to the repair shop for service to ensure that the manual-winding UR-7-20 movement is in optimal condition.

Last but not least, the UR-220 is worn on the first strap ever designed entirely in-house by Urwerk. Made of rubber, this strap is molded using the Vulcarboné® vulcanization process, which gives it unparalleled wearing comfort and makes it velvety soft to the touch.
