The Timex watch M79, an automatic update of last year’s popular timepiece

After the inexplicable popularity of last year’s Q Timex 1979 Reissue, the American watch brand is about to give us another update on the classic look. This time we can expect the same iconic design but with a Japanese automatic movement instead of the quartz movement of last year’s model.

The release of last year’s watch was met with a lot of hype, in fact the first batch sold out in a matter of hours and with a list already filled up to be notified when it’s released, we can only assume the same thing will happen to the M79.

The few main differences with the Q are the “Pepsi” bezel replacing the “Batman” unidirectional bezel and the size being slightly beefed up from 38mm to 40mm to accommodate the 21 jewel Miyota movement.

There will also be a display window on the back to prove to any naysayers that Timex does make automatic watches. They’ve kept the date window at three o’clock along with the stiletto-shaped minute hand and added a T-shaped hour hand inside the tip of the hand. One assumption is that it’s a nod to Rolex’s iconic Mercedes hand.

However, fans will be particularly pleased by the continued use of the braided steel bracelet. Taken from the original 1979 model, this ultra-comfortable steel strap also reaches another level in terms of style. Proving that not all watch straps are created equal.
