Omega Launches New Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Series in 2022

The story of Omega’s new Ultra Deep collection began in 2019 when they created a unique watch to travel deep into the Mariana Trench. Now, though, in 2022, the concept will be available to the public in four versions, water-resistant to 6000m, called the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Collection.

Of the four watches in the collection, one features a titanium case, while the other three are made from Omega’s new high-performance alloy, “O-MEGASTEEL.” Compared to traditional steel used in the watchmaking industry, O-MEGASTEEL is twice as durable and scratch-resistant (300 Vickers), as well as being brighter, whiter, and more corrosion-resistant. All four, however, share the same size and specs, with a diameter of 45.5mm, a thick height of 18.12mm, and a water-resistance of 6000m. It’s safe to say that these are watches not to be worn under the cuff.

Stylistically, all four are striking. The titanium case is a classic, almost slate-like grey material, and it has a matching dial and bezel. As you’d expect, its bezel rotates unidirectionally with a 60-minute diving scale. The watch’s dark hue is paired with bright blue numerals and a gradient blue seconds hand, and the same blue accents are also found on the NATO strap.

As for the O-MEGASTEEL offering, there’s a gradient blue dial version with a black ceramic bezel, a gradient grey dial with a bright orange bezel, and finally a white and electric blue version. All watches feature white gold hands coated with SuperLuminova, blue hour and second hands, and a green minute hand. Likewise, the hour markers and bezel points are luminescent, which might be noticeable on a watch that’s at home 6000m below sea level.

Inside, all four Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deeps are fitted with Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912. It has automatic winding, two barrels for 60 hours of power reserve, 15,000 gauss magnetic resistance, a silicon hairspring and an Omega free-spring balance. All of which are certainly helpful in a saturation diving environment.

The three O-MEGASTEEL versions are available on a rubber strap or an O-MEGASTEEL bracelet, priced at £10,060 on the strap and £10,350 on the bracelet. The titanium version is slightly more expensive at £11,030 and is only available in NATO. Still, this is a 10k watch that you won’t have to worry about when you accidentally drop it into the villa pool.
