Rolex’s Holy Grail Daytona JPS 6241 appears at PHILLIPS’s “Famous Watches Collection – Hong Kong XIII”

Rolex’s holy grail watch, Daytona JPS ref. 6241, will be on display at Phillips Auction House’s “Famous Watch Collection – Hong Kong XIII” on November 27-28. According to the auction house, 6241 was only produced from 1965 to 1969. The short production period of four years makes it one of the rarest Daytona models, and there are less than 300 18K gold models. This 1968 JPS that will be auctioned is equipped with a “Paul Newman John Player Special” dial. In addition to the famous Paul Newman dice-faced chronograph dial, the black background and gold ring are derived from the iconic black and gold paint of the Formula One team “Lotus F1”, hence the name John Player Special (JPS).

The reason why this watch has attracted attention is that it is rare and in good condition. On the bottom cover of the watch, you can see two precious metal owl marks used from the 19th century to the end of the 20th century, which means that gold from France was used. There is also a precious metal Helvetia Queen’s Head mark from Geneva on the lugs. In view of the fact that the Daytona JPS has previously been sold at record-breaking prices at other auction houses, this model is also highly regarded. The current estimated price is HK$ 4,650,000 to 9,400,000, which is about NT$17 million to 34 million.
