Patek Philippe’s first titanium watch, Ref. 5270, auctioned for Action for Children

A sleek Patek Philippe always makes for a splash. Look what happened to the Tiffany Blue Nautilus. But while this special take on the steel sports icon is limited to just 170 pieces (seriously, why doesn’t everyone have one?), their latest release is one-of-a-kind: the Ref. 5270T-010.

First, there’s more to love about this watch than the emerald green dial, although that’s just as striking as the dial. This also happens to be the first Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph to come in titanium.

It features the same 41mm case as the standard Ref. 5270s, but instead of the usual precious metal, it’s lightweight titanium, which changes the aesthetic of the piece through the metal’s signature gray color and how it feels on the wrist. It’s a piece so special that even renowned collector Patrick Getreide wanted to get his hands on it.

Inside is Patek Philippe’s famous Calibre CH 29-535 PS Q, the perpetual calendar movement that most watchmakers aspire to, showing the day, date, month, moon phases and leap year, as well as a chronograph function. It’s what we know and love from the brand.

So how can one get a glimpse of future Patek Philippe history? At auction, of course, specifically the Action for Children charity auction in Geneva on November 7. That gives plenty of time for hype to build – and plenty of time for you to place bets on which celebrities will be snapped up.

That said, if you want to see it in person before then, you can get a rare glimpse of the Ref. 5270T-010:XV at the Geneva Watch Auction, overseen by Phillips and Bacs & Russo. The annual auction is always a highlight on the horological calendar, but this time all eyes are on Patek Philippe, even if it hasn’t sold yet.

When it does, records are ready to be broken. For charity, at least.
