OMEGA’s first new creation of 2022 – the new Speedmaster 321 movement watch with classic details and 18K Canopus Gold material, is inspired by the first Speedmaster watch CK2915-1 launched in 1957, and commemorates the 65th anniversary of this series with a unique 38.6 mm case made of 18K Canopus Gold. 18K Canopus Gold is an exclusive material developed by OMEGA. This white gold alloy is characterized by high brightness, whiteness and lasting luster. The NAIAD logo on the crown is derived from the logo used on some of the first CK2915 models to indicate the waterproof feature.
When the Speedmaster series came out in 1957, it changed the landscape of chronograph craftsmanship forever. This watch created for professional racing drivers has excellent legibility and is easy to use. It is the first to install the tachymeter scale on the bezel instead of on the dial. This feature is perfect for calculating average speed on the track and highlights the watch’s robustness, high precision and waterproof design.
For the best contrast, the new Speedmaster 321 movement features a deep black onyx dial with a vintage Omega logo and text design with an oval “O” – a classic detail of the original CK2915 model. The dial also features 18K white gold hands and 18K Canopus Gold PVD-coated scales, as well as three classic Speedmaster counters: small seconds, 30-minute counters and 12-hour counters, together with a central chronograph seconds hand.
On the bezel, the famous tachymeter scale is injected with black “Grand Feu” enamel. If you look closely, you will see two details that collectors value most about the first-generation Speedmaster: the dot above the number 90 (DON) and the dot diagonally opposite the number 70.
Inside is the calibre 321 used in the 1957 Speedmaster, which also powered the Speedmasters on the Apollo space missions, including all six historic moon landings. Since 2019, OMEGA has been reproducing the calibre 321, carefully preserving all its original specifications. This time, the calibre 321 is used again, highlighting the provenance of the new model and its true connection to the Speedmaster heritage.
Turning the watch over, you can see the engraving of the OMEGA Seahorse, the brand’s iconic logo that has been used on Speedmasters since 1957, here on the inside of the sapphire crystal, with a brilliant sapphire used for the eyes of the seahorse, paying tribute to the 65th anniversary of the Speedmaster series.
The Speedmaster calibre 321 watch is available with an 18K Canopus Gold™ metal bracelet with a stretch adjustment system, and a special wooden watch box. This watch box commemorates the 65th anniversary of the Speedmaster through its rosewood-style texture. Its shape and design are inspired by the original Speedmaster gift box that customers would receive in 1957.
