Black Ceramic Edition Omega Seamaster 300m Diving Watch

“Black is the most humble and at the same time the most arrogant. Black is lazy and easy – but also so divine. Most importantly, black tells people: I don’t bother you, and you don’t bother me.”

Since 1993, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M has had a legendary following. Over the decades, Omega has continuously updated the Seamaster 300M diving watch with new movements, new case sizes, and new dials, while maintaining the look and feel of its best-selling watch. At the beginning of 2019, Omega launched another all-black ceramic version of this new Seamaster Diver 300M.

The redesigned Seamaster Diver 300m was announced in 2018, with an increased case size (now 42mm), a new movement (Caliber 8800), a new generation of helium escape valve (which maintains water resistance even when opened), and a ceramic dial and bezel. Probably to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Seamaster 300m diving watch, the new Seamaster Diver 300M has been available in steel, gold, steel and titanium/tantalum/Sedna gold, but this Omega watch made of black ceramic and titanium is still eye-catching. Larger than the regular model (42mm), this 43.5mm is bigger and bolder!

As we all know, ceramic is a tough material that is increasingly seen in top watches. Omega has been experimenting with this wonderful material in its lineup, and it has shined in the moon watch. Now Omega has promoted the ceramic case to the Seamaster series. In addition to the case now being made of black ceramic, the size of the case of the new Seamaster Diver 300m has also increased to 43.5mm. The caseback of the watch is made of grade 5 titanium and uses Omega’s Naiad Lock system, which ensures that the engraving on the caseback is always perfectly aligned. In addition, the bezel is also made of grade 5 titanium and is equipped with a black ceramic bezel, and the scale is made of white enamel.

One of the biggest changes that comes with this is the dial, which not only features polished and brushed sections, but ceramic is a feature of the entire design. The dial is made of ceramic and features the Seamaster’s signature “wave pattern” engraved on the surface. On the new ceramic and titanium Seamaster, the dial is made of brushed black ceramic. However, the wave pattern is raised from the surface, creating a unique “positive relief” effect.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the new Seamaster Diver 300m Ceramic and Titanium and the watches that make up the core collection is that the new model has no date window. The watches in the core collection are all powered by Omega’s Caliber 8800 movement and feature a date window at 6 o’clock, while the new black ceramic and titanium version eliminates the date display entirely, which immediately makes the dial look cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing. The balance of black on black on this watch is very pleasing, and I’m glad they didn’t put red Seamaster text on this watch. That would have ruined the overall stealth black and white aesthetic.

Rather than pairing it with a matching ceramic bracelet, Omega chose to pair it with an integrated black rubber strap, which comes with a matching black ceramic clasp. The rubber strap is seamlessly connected to the case with three wide matte strips and two raised strips with a brushed look running along its length. The material looks thin at first, but once on, the strap feels great and despite the generous case size, the watch fits perfectly even on narrow wrists.

From the ceramic dial and brushed titanium hands, the ceramic and titanium case, and even the rubber strap with ceramic buckle, every component shows the highest quality and reminds us that Omega has always been a top brand among watch manufacturers.

Flip the watch over and you’ll see the beating heart of the watch, the precise, individually decorated and fully anti-magnetic in-house 8806 movement, which is METAS-certified and has anti-magnetic properties up to 15,000 Gaus. The movement also features a co-axial escapement instead of the standard Swiss lever, a frequency of 25,200vph, and a power reserve of 55 hours – this is still a weak point for the 8800 series movement, and the current trend is that the power reaches 3 days before it is considered a first-line.

Compared to the attractively priced Seamaster Diver 300M stainless steel models (such as the same tape model 210.32.42.20.06.001, priced at 37,600 yuan), the ceramic model is very expensive. The Seamaster 300M Diver Black Ceramic model 210.92.44.20.01.001 is priced at 62,700 yuan (7,500 Swiss francs), but compared with similar ceramic watches from Panerai or Zenith, the price is still reasonable.
