Phillips Watches will hold the “Watch Collection – Hong Kong XII” Spring Auction at the Hong Kong Marriott Hotel Admiralty from June 5 to 6. Following the earlier announcement of some selected auction lots, Phillips announced more highlights and a complete catalogue. The two-day auction will be led by a Patek Philippe first-generation model 2499 gold perpetual calendar chronograph watch that will appear at the auction for the first time. This watch is equipped with an Italian calendar and a “Wenger” case. It is the only first-generation 2499 model gold version in the market that still retains the original certificate. It is an extremely rare work. In addition, this season’s auction also collects a series of top independent watchmaking timepieces, including a unique “Opus One” platinum tourbillon watch jointly created by FP Journe and Harry Winston, equipped with a constant force device.
Patek Philippe, First Generation Reference 2499
18K Yellow Gold Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
The reference 2499, considered the king of Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronographs, is considered one of the brand’s greatest legendary timepieces. At the time of its launch, it was the only watch on the market with such a complication. The first generation reference 2499 presented here in yellow gold was made in 1953 and is housed in a 37.7 mm “Wenger” case. It is one of only 22 known examples in this yellow gold case. This early timepiece is not only rare and important, but also comes with an original certificate with the date code “ATHR”, meaning it was issued in December 1956, and with the original envelope with the corresponding movement number, as well as a supplementary certificate confirming that it was made in 1953.
Patek Philippe, Third Generation Reference 2499
18K Yellow Gold Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
In addition, this season’s auction will also present a third generation reference 2499 made in 1977. This piece is one of the last to be produced before the third generation of this model was discontinued. It is also made of 18K yellow gold and equipped with a “Wenger” case and is in excellent condition. This piece is available for the second time. It was previously from the original owner’s family collection and comes with a full set of accessories and original certificate.
Harry Winston Opus One
Piece Unique Platinum Tourbillon Watch
For the first time, a unique “Opus One” watch produced by the legendary watchmaker FP Journe and Harry Winston will appear at auction, equipped with a tourbillon with a constant force device and a pink dial. “Opus One” is considered the most important cooperation project between the two brands of FP Journe and Harry Winston, and it also laid the foundation for the “Opus” series in the next few years. This dream lot provides collectors with an excellent opportunity to acquire an early work of the prestigious watchmaker FP Journe.
Harry Winston Opus V
Limited Edition 18K Rose Gold Watch
Harry Winston’s “Opus V” was launched in 2005 as a collaboration between the brand and Urwerk’s co-founder and chief watchmaker Felix Baumgartner. The “Opus V” is one of the most popular models in the “Opus” series. Adhering to the infinite creativity of the “Opus” series, the biggest feature of this watch is the world’s first three-dimensional roaming satellite reading. In addition, there is a retrograde design and day and night display, and a 5-day power reserve display at 10 o’clock, allowing the wearer to easily grasp the time. The “Opus” 18K rose gold version presented this time is the 34th number of the limited production of 45 pieces, which is comparable to a fine art.
De Bethune DB25SJ
Starry Night 18K white gold watch
Founded in 2002, De Bethune quickly became the most forward-looking rising star in the independent watchmaking industry with its aesthetic and technical features. The starry dial of the DB25SJ Starry Night model is luxurious and elegant. The moon phase is set with 44 diamonds and 44 sapphires, rotating on its own axis, and is extremely accurate, with only one day difference from the actual data of the observatory every 122 years. This excellent lot is on sale for the first time, creating the effect of a starry night sky, as if traveling through time and space, telling the infinite imagination of the vast universe.
FP Journe Chronomètre à Resonance
Platinum Dual Time Zone Watch
Since its launch in 2000, FP Journe’s “Resonance” model has become one of the most iconic timepieces in the contemporary watch industry. As the world’s first watch with resonance function, the two balance wheels of its movement alternately play the role of “stimulator” and “resonator”. When they swing at the same time, they will counterbalance each other based on the principle of resonance, so that the beats of the two balance wheels match each other, injecting more inertial power into each other’s swing, so that the running speed of the two completely independent movements can be perfectly balanced. The “Chronomètre à Resonance” auctioned this time is equipped with a platinum case and a rare pink and orange “Salmon” dial for this model. It is exquisite and charming, and the quality is intact.
FP Journe Vagabondage II
Limited Edition Platinum Tonneau-Shaped Semi-Skeleton Watch
The “Vagabondage II” was released in 2010 and is named after the “Wanderer”. It is also the second timepiece of FP Journe with a tonneau-shaped case design. It is equipped with the brand’s special barrel and constant force device, and has an instantaneous hour and minute display. There is a small second hand at 6 o’clock and a power reserve display at 12 o’clock. The watch being auctioned this time is number 40 of the platinum version limited to 69 pieces.
