Black and red, power and beauty | Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi watch

OMEGA has launched the new Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi watch. This watch, which is mainly black and red and exquisitely integrates the charm of carbon fiber, conveys the common characteristics of Omega and the Alinghi sailing team: Swiss precision, innovation and pioneering spirit. Regarding the cooperation with the Alinghi sailing team, Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega, said: “The focus of this new watch is the combination of two outstanding Swiss brands and their passion for innovation and sailing. In order to match Alinghi’s advanced sailing works, we have used some very amazing technologies, as well as the best materials and very original design concepts.”

The 1865 movement equipped in the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi watch is amazing. This manual-winding movement is not only light and thin, but also visually presents a powerful technological beauty. Omega draws inspiration from the TF35 catamaran newly adopted by the Alinghi fleet, using laser ablation technology to create a honeycomb texture effect similar to the carbon fiber hull of the Alinghi catamaran, which is used to decorate the black carbon fiber texture of the main plate and barrel bridge, and this decoration is also inspired by the carbon fiber used in the hull.

The overall color configuration is mainly black, embellished with bright red, and this design is inspired by the Alinghi logo. The black and red configuration runs through many watch details, such as the perforated black and red rubber straps, and the 44.25mm black zirconium oxide ceramic case. Along the Super-LumiNova super fluorescent paint tachymeter scale, we also see the Alinghi trademark appearing on the red varnished stopwatch start/stop button in the peripheral design.

The small dial at 3 o’clock has a red 4-minute and 5-minute countdown function to enhance accurate reading at sea. The traditional pointer on the small dial at 6 o’clock has been replaced by a sandblasted and anodized aluminum disc, and the sandblasted anodized aluminum disc with the red Alinghi logo has replaced the traditional chronograph design. The logo of the sailing team is in the shape of the letter “a”, inspired by the scene of two sailboats circling the sea before the start of the race. When the stopwatch function is activated, the logo will rotate on the watch. Regarding this collaboration with Omega, Ernesto Bertarelli, founder and president of Alinghi, said: “We are very honored to work so closely with Omega on this wonderful new watch. Since its inception, we have clearly noticed the watch factory’s superb expertise in sports timing and passion for sailing. Therefore, collaborating with Omega on a watch is a very special moment, and we are now seeing excellent results. It is a perfect start for our cooperation and clearly represents more fruitful results in the future.”

Omega and Alinghi began their cooperation in 2019 and have achieved good results in many events, including the GC32 World Championship in June 2019, the D35 Cup Championship in September, and the GC32 Championship in November.
