Perpetual calendar chronograph is one of the most representative functions of PATEK PHILIPPE, starting from the first generation 1518 in 1940, followed by 2499, 3970, 5970, and the current model is the fifth generation 5270 launched in 2011. Although the 5270 has been launched since 2011 and has undergone several design revisions, the materials used have always been rose gold, white gold and platinum. It was not until the 5270J-001 in 2020 that gold was used for the first time in this model, and the family tree of the fifth generation of the perpetual calendar chronograph of the watch king was finally completed.
PATEK PHILIPPE has a deep and special feeling for the function of the perpetual calendar chronograph, and it is for a reason that it attaches so much importance to it, because the first perpetual calendar chronograph produced in series in the history of watches is the PATEK PHILIPPE 1518 in 1941, and no other brand has been able to break this situation in 40 years. Therefore, in 2011, the 70th anniversary of the perpetual calendar chronograph, PP chose to launch the current 5270 to celebrate this important milestone.
The 5270 is particularly representative of PP’s perpetual calendar chronograph, because it is PP’s first perpetual calendar chronograph equipped with a self-made chronograph movement. Based on the self-made chronograph movement CH 29-535 PS in 2009, the perpetual calendar module with 182 parts is assembled. For the picky watch fans who hold “cleanliness”, it is a model with the bloodline of the pure king of watches.
5270 has been released for nearly 10 years, which is considered a long-lived model of the brand. Many materials and styles have been launched one after another, and the design has also undergone several revisions and fine-tuning. In 2011 and 2015, the platinum model with silver-white face (discontinued) and the rose gold model with cream face (discontinued) were launched respectively, followed by the rose gold chain with black face and platinum salmon face in 2018. Gold is a relatively traditional and classical material. It is very suitable for the perpetual calendar chronograph, a complex function that is of great significance to PP. However, in terms of design details such as the watch body, the 5270J conveys more modern lines, such as the concave bezel, the double-layer lugs that are a bit close to the horn shape, and the anti-slip engraving of the crown is also more exaggerated, almost like a small tire.
The current 52.70 perpetual calendar chronographs are made of platinum with a salmon face, rose gold with a black face and a teardrop-shaped chain, and this gold with a silver-white face. The three materials and three different tones seem to represent a different tone, with very distinct styles. It depends on which one collectors like.
