What are the watches in the watch gathering? Let’s take a look at the watches worn by the masters Ep.1

As watch-related online communities have become more numerous, offline physical gatherings such as “watch gatherings” have also become common. Are you also curious: what kind of people attend watch gatherings? What do people talk about? This time, Eric, editor-in-chief of the Watch Guide, will take everyone to participate in the Vintage-themed watch gathering hosted by RedBar Taiwan. In the first episode, we will immediately explore what kind of watches the experts wear to watch gatherings? What watches have they spent money on recently? The video specially interviews Morgan King, who has been interviewed by the authoritative watch media Hodinkee, RedBar Taiwan, as well as Joe, the founder of the watch friend website, and Chris, a friend of celebrity Wang Yangming EWC, to see what watches the top collectors have collected? And why do they collect them?

Morgan:

My watch is a Rolex 1680 Red Sub mk. I, 1967. My right hand is a Seiko 5 Sports, which was given to me by my wife’s father in 1970. Both are antiques. You also know that I wear one watch on my left hand and one on my right hand, representing Los Angeles time and Taiwan time.

Why do you buy these watches? Because these are antiques, vintage collections, they have souls. First, of course, it is also a pleasure to buy new ones, I am very happy to have new ones. But for old vintage ones, first, you don’t have to be afraid of scratches, right, they have already been scratched! Second, they have life. If you think about it, if this watch has life, what have they experienced and seen after living for so long? I am really curious about the experience and connotation of these watches. I love these watches, there are so many stories on them, and each scratch here represents a story and brings you something. Look at this rust spot, it looks like an old and warm leather jacket.

Luis:

I am wearing the first generation Lange 1 on my hand today, white gold, blue face. The reason I bought it is that I prefer the first generation Lange 1, because there is a small, island-shaped part in the middle of the movement design behind it, which is not in the second generation movement, so I like this visual experience very much. The first generation of Lange 1 blue dial is relatively rare, so when I saw this watch, I thought it was a worthwhile model to buy. Moreover, given the current popularity of sports models, the second-hand price of this watch is quite reasonable, and I even think it is a bit underestimated.

Gyula:

I prepared two watches today. The first one is a special cufflink watch launched in the 1930s, which was a gift from my girlfriend for Christmas this year. The other one is a very special watch, a souvenir given to me by my father when I came to Taiwan, a 1952 DOXA antique watch, which is a 40mm watch, which is quite large for a vintage watch.

Chris :

I recently bought a Sea-Dweller mk. II with an upgraded movement. I have always liked the Rolex Sea-Dweller. Actually, I had a Deepsea before that. However, the 44mm diameter of the Deepsea was too big. The D-Blue always hung on the side of my wrist. I thought I had to get rid of it and buy another diving watch because I really like diving watches with a strong sporty style.

Eric:

Still a Vintage Rolex. I bought a 16528, which is a Daytona with a ZENITH movement. What is special about this one is that it is a mk.I, so it has a black face and a floating dial with dropped letters. It only appeared on the R series in 1988, so it is more meaningful.

Joe:

I recently bought an old GRAND SEIKO watch. My watch is the GRAND SEIKO 6185 VFA. The 6185 VFA is a three-dimensional time scale, and it has short hour, second, and minute hands. This watch is the pinnacle, the highest level of Japanese watchmaking. Why do I say this? Although this watch is from 1970, when this model was launched in 1969, its monthly error was 1 minute. So I think this watch is an old watch that I can buy from GRAND SEIKO, representing the highest level of Japanese watchmaking, and there is no higher level. So it is a watch that I must collect.
