A new generation member of the king of watch timing｜PATEK PHILIPPE 5172G-001 chronograph

Patek Philippe’s chronographs are a must-have for senior watch collectors. The Ref. 5170 watch, equipped with the new generation of self-made hand-wound chronograph movement CH 29-535 PS, was launched in 2010. It is the first men’s watch model equipped with a fully self-made chronograph movement by Patek Philippe. It has been launched in gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum styles. In 2019, the brand redesigned this special watch that is highly sought after by collectors. The new Ref. 5172G-001 has a new case shape. The white gold case has a round chronograph button and a three-layer lug design, as well as a retro box-shaped sapphire glass mirror. The first color of the new model is the most popular blue dial today.

The dial design of Ref. 5172G-001 has been completely changed. The blue background sets off the white gold Arabic numerals with luminous coating, which are in sharp contrast. It is matched with the baton-style white gold pointed hour and minute hands, which are also coated with luminous coating. The central chronograph second hand is sandblasted, with white transferred minute scale and tachymeter scale, and the outer edge of the double-eye chronograph counter is a white rail-type minute scale, which is clearly readable.

The CH 29-535 PS chronograph movement equipped in the watch combines traditional structure with six patented innovative technologies, which has become a major feature of the movement. Patented innovative technologies include improved gear shape, enhanced performance of gear sets, and automatic adjustment and reset of chronograph hammers. Taking into account the function and performance of the movement, the movement design also incorporates several technical features, such as a 30-minute instantaneous jump counter. The elegant appearance and exquisite details of the movement are clearly visible under the sapphire transparent bottom cover.

The Ref. 5127G-001 white gold watch is paired with a hand-stitched dark blue calfskin strap and a white gold folding buckle, and the watch also replaces the earlier Ref. 5710P-001 platinum model.
