An Adventure in Color|Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5168G-010

Aquanaut, which has always been regarded by watch fans as the entry-level version of Nautilus, has become as popular as Nautilus in recent years with the trend of sports watches. This can be seen from the popularity of the Aquanaut 20th Anniversary Platinum commemorative model 5168G “Jumbo” launched in 2017. Patek Philippe intends to differentiate the product positioning of the two sports watch series. Compared with the classic route of Nautilus, Aquanaut has begun to make bold attempts in design. For example, the khaki green 5168G-010 launched in 2019 continues the Aquanaut series’ bold attempts in color in recent years.

The 5168, which came out in 2017, has a large diameter of 42mm and is equipped with a 324 SC automatic winding movement. It can basically be regarded as an enlarged version of the 5167. The design is almost the same except for the not-so-obvious size difference. However, because of the larger size, it can accommodate more details. Many more delicate details can be found on the blue-faced 5168G launched in 2017. For example, the hour scale outside the Arabic numerals on the dial uses inlaid three-dimensional white gold Arabic numerals instead of the printed form of 5167, which upgrades the overall texture. The green version 5168G-010 launched in 2019 uses the same white gold case material and dial details as the blue-faced version in 2017, and is further equipped with a new patented folding buckle for greater wearing stability. The special color matching of the khaki green dial and rubber strap brings out a more dynamic visual style.

Since Aquanaut is the only series of Patek Philippe with a rubber strap, and it is also the most lively and bold series of Patek Philippe, for the young generation who love the king of watches or collectors who like sports and leisure style, even if the white gold material of 5168G-010 makes the price higher, it is still a very attractive style.
