The Le Locle manufacture invites us to be on the same wavelength with this fusion newcomer, which blends high mechanical frequencies with high monochromatic frequencies.

Although UV light is of the same type as visible light, it is invisible to the human eye. Amid the shock of new watches boasting blue dials, the Defy 21 Ultraviolet evokes the opposite effect. Zenith has taken a bold step and gone against the trend of the times by decorating many of the watch’s components with a very specific purple hue. Its skeletonized movement thus highlights an intense hue rarely used in watchmaking. And, based on the external light, it forever changes from light to dark, thus providing a unique personality to the observatory watch. This stylistic choice is further enhanced by the three neutral grey counters, the two chronograph totalizers and the small seconds. This nuance is also featured on the 1/100th scale hovering over the central direct drive, the flange, and the 44 mm diameter titanium case. All hands and indexes perfectly highlight this relief-based composition, thanks to the use of Super-LumiNova® SLN C1.

The El Primero 9004 automatic movement at the heart of this watch is equipped with two escapements, one set to 5 Hz for time data and the other set to 50 Hz for measuring times to 1/100th of a second.

In order to create an unconditional contrast with the Defy 21 Ultraviolet, the black rubber strap includes a purple insert that imitates the effect of woven fabric. To ensure that the watch is secure and comfortable to wear, the strap is equipped with a folding clasp made of the same material as the case.
