Once again, Only Watch has struck, and once again, Patek Philippe has asked itself to build the record-breaker of the bunch. Given how this unique version of the Master Chime turned out, we’re not going to bet against them.
The watch that gets the Only Watch twist this time around is Patek Philippe’s most complicated watch, the 6300. Just how complicated is it? Well, it has 20 different functions, including grande and petite sonneries, a minute repeater, an alarm, and various time zone and calendar indicators. It even has a date repeater, because every chime complication still isn’t enough.
Only a handful of these double-bred bad boys are built each year—no wonder—and go for the low millions. That makes it rare at the best of times. As such, a unique version of the Master Chime is far from rare; if an annually produced version is a holy grail watch, this is the Ark of the Covenant.
Typically made of precious metals, the chunky 47.7mm case in this single version is instead made of steel. Patek Philippe is one of the few brands that produces watches in steel that collectors covet. Perhaps more important, however, is the dial.
The main dial taps into the current vintage zeitgeist with a stunning vintage salmon pink, and is adorned with black gold Arabic numerals, hands, and a stunning hoop guilloché finish. This would be a selling point even without the steel case. The perpetual calendar dial is literally in a creamy white hue with rose gold hands and date indicator.
The Grandmaster Chime is one of Patek Philippe’s most incredible creations, and that’s saying something. Steel makes Patek Philippe collectors foam at the mouth, and that’s saying something too. Pair that with a stunning salmon dial, and you have a watch that’s almost guaranteed to be the most expensive watch ever produced by Only Watch; and possibly the most expensive new watch ever produced. The Patek Philippe 6300A is estimated at 1,800,000 to 2,200,000 Euros.
