Breitling Premier “Bentley Mulliner” Limited Edition

Despite being the longest-running car/watch partnership of them all, Breitling and Bentley have been pretty quiet of late. Well, Bentley hasn’t; their latest gold release is nothing if not loud. But now the silence on the partnership has been broken, this time in the guise of the elegant Premier collection. This is the Breitling Premier Bentley Mulliner Limited Edition.

While not exactly hot, the new limited edition follows the Bentley Centenary model (which you can review here) and is a belated tribute to the Continental GT Mulliner Convertible.

Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, it’s a decently sized men’s watch, without the 39mm chunkiness of this vintage model, and hints at the brand more subtly than many previous Breitling Bentley models. In terms of color, it uses a silver dial taken from the car’s dashboard clock, with the band and dial covered in the same blue that the GT’s interior is, with red stitching mirrored on the seconds hand and tachymeter.

A very subtle but no less clever touch that’s only visible when the clock and watch are together. The clock displays the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9, while the watch displays all the others: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11. Otherwise, it’s a nicely pared-down take on the Mulliner with no knurling in sight.

The finishing touch is a plaque on the side of the case that simply reads “Bentley,” based on the rotating instrument panel of the historic Bentley engine.

Unlike past Bentley models, you don’t have to endorse or even know about the partnership to appreciate this watch. Timeless in silver and blue, the Premier Chronograph is a solid piece of watchmaking, especially with the Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01 automatic movement.

The Premier Bentley Mulliner Limited Edition stands on its own merits – just like any good collaborative watch.
