Electricianz DeZert Retro Niche Swiss Multi-Function Mechanical Watch

Swiss watchmakers have relied too heavily on analog, strictly mechanical. In moving as far away from quartz watches as possible, they’ve lost sight of the wonder of electricity and their worship of the raw flow of energy that the modern world relies on. They’re stuck in another era. Not so The Electricianz.

Electric and proud should be the tagline for The Electricianz. Each of their watches is equipped with a long-lasting battery, something their designs highlight rather than hide. Take their latest timepiece, the DeZert, for example.

Like something born from a Swiss Mad Max, the DeZert looks like it was built to survive in the wasteland. The large 45mm sand-colored case is made from stainless steel, then wrapped in thermoformed, extremely hard-wearing Top 10 nylon. It may have a soft, silky exterior, but it’s tough, heat-resistant, and abrasion-resistant. It’ll take more than a desert chase to harm this thing.

With its visible dual batteries, the dial looks more like a transformer than a watch, despite the fact that it sports hour, minute, and second hands. You can even see a hint of bright copper underneath, convincing one that this is a piece of electronic wizardry rather than a traditional Swiss watch.

The dual-battery layout has practicality. It means when one starts to run down, you can simply switch to the backup to keep the watch running for double the time. The LED light warns you, so there’s no need to worry about missing it.

That’s not the only LED in the DeZert, either. The hour ring is powered by four LEDs, making it clearly visible in any light. Nobody wants to be caught out, whether in glaring daylight or the early hours of the morning.

Overall, it’s an undeniably eye-catching design. Created by Swiss Studio Divine, the DeZert is in keeping with Electricianz’s overall collection: vibrant, eclectic, and unlike anything else on the market. If Swiss watchmaking is a little dull for you, if you’re after something a little more personal – and certainly easier to care for – then look no further.
