TAG Heuer Navigator Series GMT Blue Dial Watch WAY201T.BA0927

TAG Heuer’s iconic Sea-farer has made a splash in 2020, joining a veritable armada of traveler complications released in the past six months, with the famous Batman colorway in the new Aquaracer GMT.

Firstly, this isn’t a Rolex rip-off. Sure, their most famous use of it is the black/blue 24-hour bezel, but it’s also a two-tone watch that makes sense: blue by day, black by night, just like in real life. Well, at least a few miles outside of London’s orange glow. Beyond that crude resemblance, the Aquaracer is a very different marine animal.

The Aquaracer’s angular, faceted case is more water-friendly than the Riviera, and there’s no doubt this is a watch meant for splashing around. Sure, the 43mm case is water-resistant to 300 meters, but the look and feel more than anything scream high-octane.

The design is paired with a flawless ocean-blue ridged brushed dial that pairs perfectly with the same color of the GMT bezel. It’s thick, sturdy, and reliable.

It’s also more useful than some of the GMT timepieces out there. Similar to the GMT-Master II, the second time zone hand can be set independently of local time; you can then set the rotating 24-hour bezel to track a third time zone…in theory. The only downside is that you’ll have to somehow remember where the GMT hand is supposed to be pointing if you want to track all three.

The movement itself won’t let you down, though. TAG Heuer’s ever-reliable Calibre 7 Automatic has a 46-hour power reserve, all protected by a sturdy stainless steel case.

The Aquaracer continues to be the best of all things nautical, bringing TAG Heuer’s racing inspiration to the high seas, and the GMT is an obvious but appreciated addition. Hopefully they’ll bring some other funky bezels in the future; we could use a few more timepiece colors right now.
