It feels like not too long ago we were talking about the Bond watch for the 25th instalment in the series, the cool military-style Seamaster 300m 007 edition (more on that here). But now that No Time to Die has finally been given a release date of November 12, fingers crossed, Omega has revealed their actual tie-in limited edition Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond Numbered Edition.
The watch from the movie is a nice surprise, simple, restrained and unusually subtle. It’s more like what we’re used to seeing from Omega’s super spy creations, though.
The 42mm case is made from a platinum alloy, and there’s also a plaque attached to the side, made from the same material, engraved with the numbered (not limited to) edition number. It’s an unusual choice of precious metal, but a nice change nonetheless.
Most of the action happens on the black lacquered dial, though, which features the spiraling gun barrel motif that opens every white gold Bond film. Hidden on that dial, within the index at 10 o’clock, is the number 50 – a reference to the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Because apparently that’s a date worth remembering.
Flip the watch over and you’ll find the final flourish – Bond’s coat of arms, engraved and gilded on the sapphire caseback. You can almost see the impressive Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8807 through it.
The non-bonded details are lovely too, like the ceramic bezel with a tactile platinum diving scale, which is a nice touch, but let’s be honest, that’s for fans and fans only. It’s not… subtle. It does come with its own Globe-Trotter carrying case, though, which is nice.
