The Fleurier-based watchmaker has unveiled a gorgeous new creation featuring a flying tourbillon, with not one, but two rainbow gems taking center stage.
While unicorns have been trending for the past few years, rainbows, on the other hand, have been popular since ancient times. Legend has it that at the end of this fascinating optical phenomenon, which symbolizes joy and merriment, there is a pot full of gold. Even if this belief is based on fantasy, the rainbow remains a magical sight. Following in the footsteps of this talisman, Parmigiani’s Tonda 1950 Tourbillon Double Rainbow watch is adorned with not one, but two cameras, one reproducing the classic color scheme and the other presenting the opposite layout.
The dazzling white gold dial of this timepiece is embellished with brilliant-cut diamonds of varying sizes, added using the snow setting technique, i.e. approximately 573 gems with a total weight of 1,402 carats. The aventurine-shaped dial is off-center at 2 o’clock, like a shimmering bubble, reminiscent of a starry sky, surrounded by a rainbow of 31 baguette-cut colored gemstones. In total, there are 4 rubies, 3 orange and 5 yellow sapphires, 5 tsavorites, 5 blue sapphires, 4 amethysts and 5 pink sapphires, with a total weight of 0.31 carats. The cutout at the bottom of this large navy blue track harmoniously embraces the aperture, displaying the 60-second flying tourbillon. At the center of this fascinating scene, two skull triangle hour and minute hands hover on slender indexes.
These displays are powered by the PF517 movement, which is equipped with an ultra-thin automatic winding movement at 3 Hz, provides a 48-hour power reserve, and is set in a rose gold case. The case, 40.20 mm in diameter and 9.43 mm thick, is decorated with a second rainbow on the top and features 40 colored gemstones (2.50 carats), again baguette-cut. 6 blue sapphires, 6 amethysts, 5 pink sapphires, 4 rubies, 6 orange and 6 yellow sapphires and 7 tsavorites form a mythical marriage.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Double Rainbow Tourbillon watch is paired with a red alligator leather strap designed by Hermès and secured with a rose gold pin buckle.
