Not all quartz movements are created equal, and those from The Electricianz are among the elite. It’s not necessarily that they’re inherently better – although in many cases they are – but rather that their battery-powered movements are their defining feature. We saw this in the sand-colored DeZert, and now more aptly in the four-piece Steel Z collection.
The name comes from the use of a plain steel case throughout the collection, which sounds like it should be a non-starter. However, Electricianz has used nylon coatings on watches in the past, which creates a softer, velvety feel. The result is a sharper look than their watches ever have, which is nicely reflected on the dial.
The Electricianz Soprano Z
The asymmetry of the asymmetric dial is cool, with the majority of the seconds, minutes, and hours displayed on the right side. Its segmented look is like a futuristic doomsday clock, with a fitted foil for exposed wiring taking up the rest of the dial space. It’s futuristic in a utilitarian, steampunk way.
Electricianz Soprano Z – Night
Electricianz is known for its LED backlighting, another electric touch that makes the watches legible in low light. With the Steel Z series, though, they’ve added a fifth LED. The result is a glowing dial that’s just as easy to read at night as it is during the day. Perhaps even more so.
Electricianz Steel Z
Despite sharing a shameless movement, layout, and overall design, the four watches have distinct personalities. The Steel Z itself is the most restrained, leaning into the silver of the new case with a matching dial, and touches of bronze and rose gold on the hands, crown, and conductive cables.
Electricianz CaZino
CaZino ups the color, pairing the conductive threads with a green backing to mimic the felt of a gaming table. Flashes of orange on the seconds hand and the strap that holds the wiring – along with the rose gold PVD dial and case – make for a funky, rich design.
The Electricianz Soprano Z
The Soprano Z is similar in its use of rose gold, but by removing the unbalanced color, it becomes more elegant in design. The rose gold is very bright and contrasts nicely with the unusual layout of the dual-battery quartz movement.
The Electricianz Stonez
The finale is our favorite by far: the Stone Z. It pairs a steel case with a bright blue dial and adds splashes of color to the smaller parts of the movement. It’s the most striking and futuristic piece of the lot, and for us, it defines The Electricianz in the best possible way.
Electricianz Stonez – Night
With the Steel Z collection, The Electricianz continues its unique interpretation of the quartz movement and the power of horological electricity in a way that’s more accessible and more interesting to design than ever before.
