Breguet Classic Series 5367 Ultra-thin Automatic Tourbillon Watch

The Breguet Classic collection lives up to its name; it’s one of the most traditional watch collections, relying on Breguet’s heritage to produce pieces that seem unchanged for a century or two. We’re talking about elegant gold cases, exquisite complications, and classic white enamel dials. Except, of course, for the latest version of the Classic Automatic Extra-Thin Tourbillon 5367.

Oh, and it features most of the same elements as its 2017 predecessor. It shares the 42mm case, though this time in platinum; more importantly it has the same extra-thin tourbillon, with a total thickness of just 7.45mm. Exquisite is an understatement. The obvious difference, however, is the enamel.

Enameling is an arduous process that requires painstaking layering and furnaces firing at 800 degrees Celsius. White is difficult enough, as the artisans are building up layers of the same color; however, here they need to be even more precise, as one layer will make it too dark and one layer will be too light.

The result is a stunning Breguet blue, with the kind of depth that can only be achieved with Grand Feu enamel. Was it worth the effort? Hmm. Is this a lovely reinterpretation of Breguet’s thinnest tourbillon? Indeed.

Under the dial is the calibre 581, which, in addition to being equipped with an exceptionally slender tourbillon, also boasts an unusual 80-hour power reserve thanks to its high-energy barrel design. The whole movement is of course beautifully finished. After all, a dial couldn’t be more difficult to make.
